Remember playing kickball outside with the neighborhood kids? Those days are so over. Now the younguns are holed up inside, glued to their videogames (at least roaming pedophiles will have a harder time locating potential victims). And gaming isnt exclusive to whiny brats either. Sure, back when the only game in town was Super Mario Bros., kids would huddle over their Nintendo systems while older brothers and sisters went clubbing on South Beach. Today, though, we older kids plug into our Xbox Live or PlayStation Network accounts in anticipation of icing some fresh noobs. The College of Business & Technology has found a way to combine the antisocial aspect of gaming with the über-social pastime of partying. Meet Lanbash, the colleges interactive videogaming tournament.
Lanbash is a huge party with food and live music followed by a hyperintense videogame tournament. This Friday at 6 p.m., Latin rock band Vecinos de la Noche kicks off an evening of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Star Craft 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds tournaments, fueled by coffee and energy drinks. You can also win an Xbox 360 Kinect and other gamerrific prizes. The Lan part comes from the fact that players will compete over a local area network (LAN) as opposed to all of those losers at home on the World Wide Web. The tourney will be held at CBTs West Kendall Campus.
Fri., April 29, 6 p.m., 2011
