The Promise of a New Day
Ricky Burdett carries extremely impressive credentials. Hell need em in a place like Miami. Heck, hell probably need major tranquilizers too. Miami is to downtown what Jackson Pollock is to Realism. Burdett, a leading figure in the exciting world of urban planning i.e., how to make it possible for buildings and people to coexist happily is a program director at the London School of Economics and chief advisor for construction of the venue for the 2012 Olympics in London. Hell speak freely, and for free, at DawnTown 2007, an annual architecture event about the future of cities in that splendid (ahem) and ever-expanding architectural blop in dead-center downtown that is Miami Dade College (specifically in the Chapman Conference Center, on NE Fourth Street between Second Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard, Miami).
Parking is free (with printed invitation) in the garage on NE Sixth Street between First and Second avenues. A panel of local experts will try to explain Miamis planning to a surely befuddled Mr. Burdett following his lecture, which begins at 10 a.m. Oh boy. To RSVP, contact Geraldine Guerra at 305-237-3222, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
