If you’re looking for an escape from the American pop dungeon, head to Lincoln Road this Saturday. Ignore the “Boom Boom Pow” blaring from designer boutiques and the blah-blah-blah of tourists sipping espressos, and keep right on walking until you get to the Colony Theatre. What’s there? The anti-Brooke Hogan-ness of Adriana Calcanhotto.

The 8 p.m. performance marks her debut in the Magic City, but Calcanhotto is no stage novice. Since the 1980s, she’s been an indelible artistic force in Brazil, spearheading the modern MPB (música popular Brasileira) movement via her haunting voice and bossa nova grooves. Always intensely poetic, Calcanhotto draws comparisons to Caetano Veloso, considered by some the “Bob Dylan of Brazil.” And don’t worry — even if you can’t speak Portuguese, you’ll understand her lyrics simply by the timbre of her voice and the movement of the crowd.
