The Mantra at MoCA
If you were to open the mailbox and discover a snazzy, finger-snapping, cross-cultural postcard, Mantra World Music Ensemble would likely come to mind. Led by percussionist, vocalist, and perennial good-vibe fairy Marlon Moore, Mantra combines a hip-swaying blend of original and classic music into a high-energy celebration of jazz, Latin, and Afro-fusion rhythms that richly conveys the pulse of the Magic City. Tonight at 8:00, Mantra brings its infectious beat and multiculti caravan of musicians from across the region to Jazz at MoCA for the popular free concert series outside the museum.
Visitors can also catch Make Your Own Life: Artists in and out of Cologne, a group show featuring paintings, videos, and installations by three generations of European and American artists. They encountered each others works during the German citys vibrant scene in the Eighties and Nineties, which sparked a pollination of ideas. The show includes works by Martin Kippenberger, Albert Oehlen, Rosemarie Trockel, and Christopher Wool, among others.
