The blogosphere is a band-eater. In 2007, those behind laptops adored Jax indie poppers the Black Kids. They raved about their debut EP, Wizards of Ahhhs, and the single “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You.” The pulsing online buzz launched them to the number five spot on UK album charts, got them booked at the CMJ Music Marathon, and garnered writeups in the New York Times and Rolling Stone. But even amid all of that fame, the Black Kids still didn’t have a record deal. They finally signed to Columbia Records in 2008 and put out their sophomore effort, Partie Traumatic. The blogosphere went silent, except for those Pitchfork curmudgeons who admonished it with a 3.8. Ouch. The band is still kicking, though. They recently toured with the Kaiser Chiefs and Mates of State. And they’ll make their first stop in Miami since 2007 this Friday at the Vagabond. Winter Haven band Pop Glow will open.
