The Big Sleep
Forget the haunted houses and the crappy slasher films the scariest spectacle you can treat yourself to this weekend is the premiere of Ground Up and Risings production of Martin McDonaghs The Pillowman at ArtSouth Sanctuary Performing Arts Center. The most ambitious work in the young Irishmans acclaimed oeuvre, The Pillowman dispenses with all the useless flimflam and gadgetry that haunt horror flicks and keep the action restricted to one interrogation room as the police attempt to break a fiction writer suspected in a string of gruesome child murders. And gruesome is perhaps an understatement. Think as sick and twisted as possible and then double it.
We absolutely love the work, says Ground Up and Risings Arturo Fernandez. And weve wanted to produce it for years. Now is their chance to prove they have what it takes to bring this world-class as in Tony Award-winning material to life. Friday nights show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday also. Sunday is a 3 p.m. curtain.
Fri., Oct. 30, 8 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 31, 8 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 1, 3 p.m., 2009
