Ted Bundy Was His Name-O
Usually, you have to go to a nursing home if you want your bingo game to end with a high body count. Not at Miami Beach Botanical Garden (2000 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach), where for one weekend only, the giant irradiated Venus flytraps get a couple of days off to play bingo and the missing children can be attributed to (dramatic pause) murder. Specifically, to Bingo! It’s Murder, the latest interactive murder-mystery theater event from the blood-lusting mind of Barbara Fox.
Fox has been inciting your friends and neighbors to murder your other friends and neighbors for more than 25 years. Murder on a boat. Murder at a bed and breakfast. Murder everywhere.
“Most people do get very much into it, particularly when they find out they are the murderer,” she says of her patsies. “They run, but they never get away.”
She doesn’t run, but that’s only because after so many years, not even killing shocks her:
“As the person collapses, people usually clap or laugh. It sounds horrible, but it’s funny.”
Still, if you go to the Sunday-morning show, it beats waiting in line for brunch.
“I’m a nonviolent person,” Fox swears. “They’re really mystery comedies.”
It’s always the quiet ones, isn’t it?
Cops, take note: There will be two shows this weekend, one Friday at 7 p.m. and a second Sunday at 11 a.m. Tickets cost $24 each and must be reserved in advanced by calling Fox at 786-683-6078. If you get her voicemail, leave a message and she’ll get back to you. Just be careful if it sounds like the call is coming from inside your house. More at mysteryonthemenu.com.
