Take It Outside
At what is arguably South Floridas balmiest waterfront setting -- the atoll at Matheson Hammock Park -- fifteen artists are exhibiting monumental sculptures and site specific installations. Through March 31, Art Expressions, organized by Miami Dade Parks Division of Art and Culture, situates the works in the most fantastic environment imaginable, muses curator Patricia Risso, and is a refreshing way for the public to experience art outside a gallery or museum.
Featured artists include Romero Brito, Agustin Cardenas, Richard Medlock, Eduardo Ramirez Villamizar, Carolina Sardi, and Alette Simmons-Jimenez. Works range from an organic marble sculpture by Cardenas, to a giant metal piece by Ramirez Villamizar, to a brace of colorful flags called Rogue Wave by Simmons Jimenez. One of Medlocks meditative pieces is based on a mathematical formula, while Brito fans will easily recognize his whimsically childlike Boom Fish rendered in a burst of primary colors. Its a truly remarkable opportunity to blend with nature, blending with art, Risso adds. Admission is four dollars per car. Call 305-480-1717.
