“You'll know him by the hate in his eye when he asks for a light.” Listen up — that’s the narrator talking, so grab some couch space and don’t let go. This one is for the living-room goons, easy-chair gangsters, and celluloid thugs who like their crime full of guns and their New York full of murder. Blast of Silence is a 1961 crime-thriller-drama about a Cleveland orphan turned contract killer working a Christmastime hit against a midlevel NYC crime boss. Frankie Bono, the lone gunman, gets his shell rattled when people begin to recognize him. Find out what he does next in this newly Criterion Collection-ized low-budget classic revered for its black heart and urban grit. Seating begins this Thursday at 8 p.m. at Sweat Records; the film starts at 8:30. Snacks, popcorn, and coffee are available, and everyone is welcome to stay afterward to discuss the film. Admission is free.
