Hearing the word supercon, you cant help but picture a crowd of middle-aged men with paunches squashed into Spider-Man costumes and bald heads sandwiched between prosthetic Spock ears. But this year, Florida Supercon is doing its best to break that stereotype and bring out the inner geek in everyone. In addition to the usual comic-book-and-cartoon-packed schedule, stop in for the Geek Film Festival, which includes Back to Space-Con about the very first Star Trek convention, the satirical The Bolt That Stole Christmas, and Bots High about Miamis high school robotics teams. Two dozen bands will perform at the comic con, including Friday nights headliner, Motion City Soundtrack. There will also be nerd-tinged karaoke and full-throttle cosplay competitions. But dont fret, die-hard supercon nerds, because there are plenty of guest stars too. The lineup includes Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Bruce Boxleitner (Tron), Dana Snyder (Master Shake on Aqua Teen Hunger Force), Richard Horvitz (Invader Zim), and Troy Baker (Full Metal Alchemist), along with several dozen others. Florida Supercon takes place at the Miami Airport Convention Center Friday through Monday.
