Stranger Than Fiction
Were big fans of the Moth, a storytelling series with the tag line True Stories Told Live. Everyday folks as well as acclaimed performers and writers such as Margaret Cho, Jonathan Ames, Ethan Hawke, Gay Talese, and Moby have been enthralling us with tales from their lives on public radio stations since 1997 (and more recently the Moth podcast). And now Miami, arguably the weird-true-story capital of the world, has its own series called Lip Service. Although there is no theme for the October installment, Lip Service organizer Andrea Askowitz noticed a common thread in the selected readings: the idea that things are not always as they seem, but sometimes they are. Esther Martinez tells a story about perverts on public transportation. Sharon Rothberg questions what we know about time. Dena Stewart shares a public bathroom with Jackie O, and Jeffrey Weinstock makes a false assumption about his father.
