It’s been a solid season thus far for the Miami Hurricanes baseball club. Eric Erickson and his 2.51 ERA have been a sound, efficient force for the Canes’ rotation, holding batters to a .242 average as he looks to lead Miami back to Omaha in June. But to get to the College World Series, the ninth-ranked Canes will have to overcome a taxing second-half schedule. Four of the last six conference series feature a steady diet of tough teams with winning records, such as Florida State (which beat them last series 2a-1), Virginia, and Georgia Tech. But no one knows how to get the best out of a baseball team better than coach Jim Morris, whose biggest concern right now is to find a consistent long-term solution at closer. Before hitting the GT and Virginia gauntlet, however, the U has a date with the Barry University Bucs this Friday at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
