Stop Bustin Our Hemp
In 1996 Woody Harrelson was arrested for planting four little hemp seeds. He planted them to make a point of distinction between the mind-altering (in a good way) cannabis and the industrial, THC-lacking hemp plant. He was later acquitted, but the battle to support the powerful plant that was a cash crop before it was burned by the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 still rages. How amazing is hemp? The plant requires no pesticides and less water than cotton; hemp particle board is stronger than wood; one acre of hemp can produce as much usable fiber as four acres of trees; and there are more than 25,000 known uses for the plant, including plastics and petroleum. Tonight you can learn more about hemp and its swinging cousin, cannabis, when the Wallflower Gallery presents Anthony Clarkes documentary The Hemp Revolution at 7:00. Admission is five dollars, and proceeds will support the annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert. Call 305-579-0069, or visit www.wallflowergallery.com.
