Slip on This Peel
During a tropical storm warning, most people immediately head to the gas station or the grocery store to stock up on vital supplies. An eclectic and enthusiastic group of folks head away from material safety and toward the salty embrace of Miamis beaches. The surfers come out in numbers when the weather is inclement and the waves are roaring. They should do the same at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, when the Surfrider Foundation hosts the premiere screening of the way-cool surf movie Peel. The film reveals the lush landscape of Peru and the distance surfers will go for the perfect wave. Its awesome. Its this incredible exodus that really has that feeling of arrival. Its a surf odyssey, like you really got to work for it to be able to surf there, event organizer TJ Marshall says with a laugh. The film will debut as a fundraiser for Surfriders education project, which takes experienced environmentalists into area schools to teach kids about ocean awareness. Meet surfer dudes, enter a raffle for a Viking surfboard, raise environmental awareness, and watch Peel tonight at 8:00. Tickets cost ten dollars and are available at www.peelperuproject.com.
