Sharp Dressed Men
Long before pop stars set out to create a brand image, there were the burly, bearded guys of ZZ Top. From the late 70s to today, even folks who couldnt name one of the bands songs could likely recognize its signature look. Bassist Dusty Hills and guitarist Billy Gibbonss matching, wizard-like beards, sunglasses, and biker chic are as much a part of the band as their honky-tonk, boogie rock.
But while they might appear like self-caricatures, the guys, along with drummer Frank Beard, still seriously shred. Its hard to imagine in the era of prefab pop-rock, but at one time, ZZ Top lit up the charts. It did so with watering-hole favorites such as Legs, Sharp Dressed Man, Rough Boy, and many others. Those days have passed, but the music lives on anywhere theres cheap booze and loose morals. Its been just a little more than a year since the act last hit South Florida for West Palm Beachs SunFest. This Wednesday will find them in much more dignified digs, at Hard Rock Lives indoor arena.
