Serenity Now

We love yoga people. With their lithe bodies and funny pants, they quietly pad around town, doing headstands and back bends, spreading peace and harmony throughout the community. This weekend, those who are flexible in both body and mind have the opportunity to be enlightened by the revered Sri Siva Baba and sway to Indian devotional music by Donna De Lory (you know, Madonna’s backup singer ... she was in Truth or Dare ... yeah, that one). And they’ll be doing yoga too. Under the direction of Michael Brandwajn and Eden Goldman, the annual yoga fest known as Karmapalooza has raised more than $10,000 for charity since its inception in 2004. This year they will be bending over backward (and forward) to raise money for the Nature Conservancy, a nonprofit that strives to preserve plants, animals, and natural habitats. Baba’s lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight, and tomorrow’s Sun Salutation A Thon is from noon to 6:00 p.m., followed by the evening concert. All events take place at The Standard (formerly the Lido Hotel). Admission to the evening lectures is $25, $55 for both nights; or if you raise enough money in pledges, you can score free passes. Visit www.karmapalooza.com for details.
