Science Is Funny
Ask Dave Williamson to smash light bulbs over his head and he will respond, “How many Twitter followers will it get me?” The full-time comic says, “It’s no longer about dignity. Anything bad that happens to me is a joke. Like, if my kid’s diaper blows out and gets shit all over the car, I think, Hey, at least I’ll get a bit out of this.” Williamson, who attended Palmetto Senior High School and has spent the past eight years honing his craft, has signed with Stand Up Records to create a live comedy album. With production help from the Have-Nots Comedy crew, he’ll launch through nearly a decade of material during 8 and 10:15 p.m. shows Saturday at the Miami Science Museum (3280 S. Miami Ave., Miami). The effort will put him on a roster with labelmates Doug Stanhope and Lewis Black and elevate Miami’s stature on the national comedy scene. “I love Miami crowds,” he says. “The L.A. comics come down here and say we’re tough, but if you’re good, Miami crowds will stay with you the whole time.” Williamson has performed on Comedy Central, Fox, and A&E and at colleges across the nation, but he maintains a local address. Let’s support our own.
