Richard Lewis Springthorpe was just your average kid in suburban Australia hanging out in the Sydney suburbs, working on his boomerang throw and boxing kangeroos to pass the time. Then, during lil’ Ricky’s preteen years, his father’s Army job took the family to London, where they lived for two years. Maybe London was a source of inspiration for the boy. Maybe he was homesick, and could only express his truest feelings in song. Whatever the reason, by the time the Springthorpes returned to Australia, they had a budding ’80s pop rock legend in tow. Rick Springfield picked up a guitar at age 13 and hasn’t looked back since, except to check out the ass on a hot chick who was dating some guy named Jessie. Go ahead, laugh at his cheesy hair and hokey lyrics. Dude still has more Grammys than you (one, to be exact) and more cred with your shut-in grandma, too, thanks to his two-year stint on General Hospital. Now he’s taking the stage at Magic City Casino, alongside fellow rocker Lita Ford. All the coolest moms are gonna be there.
