Rhapsody in the City
There is lots of sex going on in the Magic City, and having “Carrie Bradshaw” in town will only make it more official. Back before Sarah Jessica Parker played Bradshaw in Sex and the City, she was Gwyn Marcus in 1995’s Miami Rhapsody, a romantic comedy costarring Mia Farrow, Antonio Banderas, and Jeremy Piven. It’s a Miami-set story about the infinite perils and possibilities of marriage in the mid-’90s. Director David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada, Hope Springs), who also wrote the screenplay, lends his Woody Allen-esque banter to detail the romantic troubles of a wealthy, neurotic Jewish family.
This Friday, the Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a cast reunion and screening of the film at Miami Dade College’s Tower Theater (1508 SW Eighth St., Miami) as part of MIFF’s monthlong “Countdown Retrospective” series. Parker, Piven, and castmate Carla Gugino will join the director for the evening, which will begin with a 35mm screening of Miami Rhapsody. The fun continues after the screening at the Coral Gables Country Club (997 N. Greenway Dr., Coral Gables) for a reunion party.
