Return of the Phuc
Phuc Yea!, Miami’s pop-up eatery by the folks who would later launch the restaurant the Federal, was bid a sad farewell when it vacated the city’s culinary scene in 2011. (The very nature of a pop-up is to be temporary, after all.) But Miamians weren’t about to forget their love for all things pig wings and jar-o-duck.
Ever since Phuc Yea! shut its doors, foodies citywide have been clamoring for the return of the Vietnamese street-food favorite. Like the Fast and Furious franchise, Phuc Yea! has been resurrected a few times since, but not often enough for most devotees. So if you’ve sorely missed those sweet ’n’ sour chicharrones, you’re about to get another chance to taste chef Cesar Zapata’s unique creations.
For one night only, he’ll bring delicious back at Khong River House (1661 Meridian Ave., Miami Beach) as part of the 50 Eggs Guest Chef Series. The evening is a collaboration with 50 Eggs culinary director Clayton Miller, so diners can expect the unexpected. Attendees will get to dig into a five-course menu of experimental Asian fare, with wine pairings to boot.
Like a one-night show by Guns N’ Roses (with Axl and Slash included) or a pair of signed limited-edition Nike LeBrons, this is something that doesn’t come along often. Phuc yea, indeed.
