For those of you who think that Miami is all about sunbathing and matching bikinis, think again! Weve got culture, class, and a little something for everyone even the classical piano-lovers. Yup, this month marks the tenth anniversary of the Miami International Piano Festival: Discovery Series. To commemorate a decade of tinkling elegance, this years impressive lineup includes two of Germanys finest: Severin Von Eckerdstein and Martin Stadfield. Also on the list are Frances Lise de la Salle and Chinas Rachel Cheung, who both play the piano with such precision that youll forget that theyre only teenagers.
The magical sounds will emanate from the ivory keys tonight beginning at 8:15 p.m. with A Tribute to Rachmaninoff, performed by Ukrainian Alexander Gavrylyuk, Russian Ilya Itin, and Serbian Misha Dacic. The festival will run through May 13 and will include lectures and panel discussions by seasoned music professionals. Master classes for talented and promising future pianists will also take place.
