Pop, Lock, and Boogaloo
Now in its 14th year, the traveling Pro-Am International Hip-Hop Conference has already tagged two stops Vegas and San Fran on its nine-city world tour. This weekend, the fest will make the third, Miami Beach, as breakers, freestyle MCs, graffiti writers, and scratch DJs battle for cash, prizes, and a chance to compete in New York Citys World Championships. Be there when the whole thing jumps off Friday at 7 p.m. with the Prince Markie Dee Honoree Party at the Catalina Hotel, featuring a graff art throwdown and some deep poolside beats.
Roll hard again Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m., when the Pro-Am Main Event lands at the Miami Beach Bandshell (Collins Avenue at 73rd Street, Miami Beach) for an aerosol art show, hip-hop karaoke, and dance-offs starring Wild Styles Ken Swift, Step Up 2s K-Mel, and Dancing With the Stars Zulu Gremlin. Then shift back to the Catalina at 9 p.m. for the all-night afterparty.
Finally, get wet and wild during Sundays noontime pool party at the Catalina before fast-stepping to Ninth Street at Ocean Drive for a 3 p.m. cypher session with the Deadly Venoms crew. Tickets cost $10 for Fridays opening party and $20 for Saturdays main event. Kids 12 and younger get in free. Also, theres no cover for Sunday events.
