When it comes to nonhuman picnic companions, dogs are the ultimate date (ants, not so much). Who else gobbles up your leftovers and catches all of your lame Frisbee throws? So here’s some awesome news for you and Fido: Miami Beach Botanical Garden (2000 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach) is welcoming furry family members this Saturday so your pooch can get in on the Fourth of July weekend fun.
At Picnic With the Pets, you and your pup can nosh on hot dogs and soy dogs for $2 and $3, buy cool pet products, and frolic in the pool park. You’ll also have a chance to make raw dog treats from pumpkin and oats, create masterpieces in paw-print art, have a sketch done of your best pal, and even get your eyebrows threaded and Fluffy’s hair cut. Donations will benefit Miami Beach Botanical Garden.
Plus, if your pup likes to pull, there will be free leash-walking workshops by a certified trainer. A canine fashion show, complete with prizes, will cap off the festivities, so break out your dog’s Sunday best. And if you’re sadly bereft of four-legged companionship, Miami-Dade Animal Services and the Cat Network will be on hand for animal adoptions — because pets make life better.
It’s everything you could ever want in a dog-day afternoon.
Sat., July 5, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., 2014
