One More Round
Cheers closed back in 1993, but some of us still yearn to go to a place where everybody knows our name. May we suggest Tropical Nights at the Hyatts Alcazaba Lounge? Instead of Norm reaching for a bowl of stale pretzels, waiters will offer you buttery arroz con frijoles. Diane-like waitresses will dole out complimentary champagne from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., while Carlaesque barmaids dressed as mermaids will shock the crowd by wading in a fountain. Yes, this weekly bash is the place to go for culture, comfort, class, and Guayabera fashion shows.
This hump-day delight will celebrate its twentieth year in December. The event has stayed fresh by offering themed events literally chock full of nuts and bolts (at their singles-theme night, each participant is given either a nut or a bolt; then everyone mingles for a match). Other themes range from salsa -- free lessons! (7:30 to 9:00 p.m.) -- to an oldies but goodies disco revolution thats sure to prep anyone for an upcoming Saturday-night fever. Every week, ladies can enjoy two-for-one drinks. Well raise our glasses to that.
Wednesdays, 5-8 p.m., 2007
