SAT 3/26

Flexible bodies will converge on the beach for a marathon yogic fundraising event during the second annual Karmapalooza, a festival of giving through yoga. Event coordinator Michael Brandwajn expects about 200 people to participate in the day-long celebration. "The intention truly is to create a community event ... to share different aspects of yoga," says Brandwajn. "We believe that so many people coming together with positive energy will heal mother earth." The pledge-per-salutation funds raised will be donated to the Nature Conservancy. Although the Website (www.karmapalooza.com) states that "participation is open to anyone who can move and breathe," you might want to download the handy Sun Salutation guide and practice your poses before downward-dogging your way into a face full of sand. The Sun Salutation-a-thon starts at 9:00 a.m. and stretches until 6:00 p.m. at the Trump International Sonesta Beach Resort (18001 Collins Ave., Sunny Isles Beach), followed by an evening of inspirational lectures and the music of Durga Das and Bhagavan Das starting at 6:30. A Table of Poets

FRI 3/25

A quirk of the calendar brings the Famous Last Friday Open Poetry Reading to Books & Books (265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables) on Good Friday this month. Don't expect a podium, a microphone, or any formal distinction between audience and poets. Writers, audience members, and those with more melodic prose than courage sit together at a rectangular table as local lawyer/scribe Jonathan Rose moderates a friendly reading in roundtable fashion. Rose remembers one Famous Friday when three ten-year-old girls showed up. The adults with "adult" poetry had to put their work back in their pockets, and one of the girls had everyone in stitches with poems she made up on the spot. Another night turned into an impromptu memorial service for local poet Alfredo Leiseca after his death in a car crash. Tonight's reading could feature anything from a resurrection to slapstick starting at 7:30. Call 305-442-4408, or visit www.booksandbooks.com. -- Karen Dale Wolman
