Not Super, Not a Bowl
There’s the thrilling, punch-packing, concussion-inducing sport of football, and then there’s the nitpicky business of marketing that sport. Take for example the NFL’s position on this Sunday’s Super Bowl: namely, that no entity besides itself may use the term “Super Bowl,” even for events organized around the nationally televised matchup between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. So don’t think of the following as a Super Bowl party guide. Think of it as a totally random assortment of specials that just happen to be taking place during the biggest sports event of the year.
Sandbar Grill (3064 Grand Ave., Coconut Grove) has UM’s football-watching crowds covered with a Super Bowl viewing party starting at 11 a.m. and lasting until 3 a.m. Expect liquor giveaways and specials on beer. Might as well just call in sick now. Visit sandbargrove.com.
Brother Jimmy’s (900 S. Miami Ave., Ste. 135, Miami) will also show the big game on its jumbo TV screen, plus 30 additional screens around the bar/restaurant. Between plays, fans can move to the sounds of DJ Vertigo and schmooze with Lisa Morales of Miami Model Citizens. The fun begins at 4 p.m. Visit brotherjimmys.com.
Hyde Beach at the SLS Hotel (1701 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) is getting all dolled up. Servers will be dressed as cheerleaders, a special barbecue menu will be available, and two jumbo screens will broadcast the action. DJs Danny Stern and Lady Sha will provide gridiron grooves.
