Its hard to believe the Orange Bowl met its demise only three months ago. In hindsight, maybe imploding the decrepit edifice was for the best. For all the glory years enjoyed by the Miami Hurricanes at the OB, its final few moments on Earth seemed to be a sign of how much things needed to change. There was the structural damage left by Hurricane Wilma, the last gasping breaths of the Larry Coker era, and the on-field brawl against FSU, to name just a few. It all culminated with a 48-0 shellacking at the hands of Virginia Tech the worst home shutout loss in school history.
But Thursday night, when Miami hosts the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, a new era begins. The Canes are still a ways from being a true BCS contender, but this game will be fun to watch, with Javarris James, cornerback Brandon Harris, and receiver Sam Shields making up the core of an exciting young team. Also, keep an eye on freshman speedster, wide receiver Travis Benjamin if you can. Well never forget the OB, but right now its all about the new era. Kickoff is at 7:30 at Dolphin Stadium.
