The New World School of the Arts has already proven that it can produce world-class writing for the stage. 20-something graduate Tarell Alvin McCraney is one of the hottest commodities in the theater industry, having already won a National Endowment for the Art's Outstanding New American Play award, the 2007 Paula Vogal Playwrighting Award, the 2007 Whiting Award, and the 2008 London's Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright, not to mention his fellowship at Princeton University and his writer-in-residence position at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Well, there's a whole new crop of NWS playwright's presenting their work for the first time. The school's New Playwright's Festival 2009 features eight new original plays stretched over four days of performances. Who knows which playwright will be the next McCraney? Better hedge your bets and see all of them.
