Whether you’re a true believer or so skeptical you won’t even accept that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, a paperback entitled Madonna of the Toast is bound to grab your attention. Fortunately you’ll be fascinated by it either way. The latest from writer, journalist, and ecodesigner Buzz Poole, the book examines the appearance of iconic images, both religious and secular, in the most mundane of surroundings. Poole brings us potato chips that look like Bob Hope, shower curtains featuring the visage of Vladimir Lenin. And of course there’s Jesus, in everything from a mandolin to a pierogi.

Poole brings his entourage of blurry icons to Books & Books today at 6:30 p.m., where he will be joined by one of the superstars of the field, Diana Duyser. Duyser, as you may remember, is the Florida woman who found a startling image of the Virgin Mary on her grilled cheese; the sacred sandwich sold on eBay for a hefty $28,000.
