When it comes to old-school soul and R&B, no brand lives on in the minds of music fans more than Motown Records. And of its vast catalogue of superstars, Smokey Robinson remains one of the most memorable.
The man with the golden voice, so silky and emotive, is the singer behind American classics such as “My Girl,” “Cruisin’,” and “You Really Got a Hold On Me.” His influence is all over the radio, evident in artists such as Pharrell and Justin Timberlake. Hell, the Beatles constantly listed Robinson as one of their greatest musical heroes.
We no longer have the pleasure of seeing Michael Jackson perform or witnessing Marvin Gaye’s smooth sensuality in the flesh, but Smokey Robinson remains in great shape. He’ll give a rousing performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) this Sunday, and there might be no better way to impress a musically inclined lover than a set from a living legend.
Turn down the lights and turn up the heat. Doors open at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $35 to $125. Call 305-949-6722 or visit arshtcenter.com.
