Miami Art Museum Unveils Newest Acquisitions
One positive outcome of the recent downturn in the art market is that institutions like our own Miami Art Museum should have a little easier time trying to compete with the big collectors for important works. With all the buzz surrounding the new Herzog & de Meuron building, scheduled for completion in 2012, it's easy to lose sight of the actual art MAM's curators have been busy purchasing. But if you're an artist, collector or art-lover it behooves you to see what's been tapped recently for their permanent collection.
MAM has even scheduled an event to contextualize the work for you. Today's lecture by artist Richard Tuttle will be a discussion of the new acquisitions hanging on the Plaza Level, including Tuttle's own "Loose Leaf Notebook Drawings". Other artists featured include Alexandre Arrechea, Gene Davis, Michael Loveland, Anna Maria Maiolino, Cristina Lei Rodriguez, Susan Rothenberg, Marc Swanson, Rachel Whiteread, and Krzysztof Wodiczko. In other words, enough inspiration to last you for a month or so.
