Mascot of Univision
When comedian Kyle Grooms worked for Univision, he joked he was the only black man in the entire company and admitted he felt more like a mascot el negrito and less like an employee. That was more than ten years ago, when Grooms was holding a 9-to-5 as an art director and honing his stand-up routine around South Florida comedy clubs. He has since appeared on Chappelles Show, P. Diddy Presents the Bad Boys of Comedy, and his own half-hour special on Comedy Central. Influenced by the greats Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Bill Hicks Grooms says he fell in love with comedy when he was 8 years old. Naturally, he moved to Fort Lauderdale after high school and enrolled at the Art Institute. OK, so that came out of left field. But what do you expect from a dude named Kyle? As he notes, Kyle is not a strong black-man name. You dont think of a Mandingo black man when you hear Kyle. Kyle sounds like a 6-year-old white kid. Grooms will perform at the Colony Theatre.
