What's your crusade? Miami Contemporary Dance Company takes on the subject of holy war in Ray Sullivan's new work, Not in My Name. For the company's third and final program of its 2010-11 season, MCDC examines the phenomenon of humans who believe they act in God's name. Sullivan works with two veteran MCDC collaborators — New York-based Kevin Keller, who composed the score, and Chilean designer Jorge Gallardo for sets and costumes — for his latest premiere. The company's 11th season, titled “Limitless and Farther Than Ever,” leaps into timely and contentious subject matter. In Sullivan's broad experience as a dancer and choreographer (the MCDC artistic director has been making dances since the mid-'80s), his work has approached abstraction as well as dance theater, and has been driven by music, literature, physics, and other influences. A self-described people-watcher, Sullivan looks inside the human condition of religious war for Not in My Name. It opens Friday at the Colony Theatre and runs through May 14.
