Last month, with just two weeks to go before the All Star break, the Miami Heat were throttled by the Orlando Magic and their high-flying three-point shooting assault. The Heat gave up 102 points to a team that both has a disgruntled star playing for it, and lives and dies by long distance low-percent shots. But after leaving Orlando thoroughly humbled, LeBron, D-Wade, Bosh and the boys proceeded to go on an epic tear through the NBA, winning eight-straight games by an average point margin of 16.5. Along the way, they dismantled Jeremy Lin and the Knicks, LeBron’s old team, the Cavs, and avenged their earlier loss to the Orlando Magic here at home. The key to their merciless obliteration and submission of their opponents -- besides LeBron and Wade flying around the court like they get their power from the sun -- has been the Heat’s stifling defense. Miami ended their February run with an 11-2 record, with ten of those wins coming by 12 or more points. That’s something that has never been done in NBA history. The moral of this story: Playing the Orlando Magic seems to make the Heat even more awesome. And, oh by the way, the Heat host the Magic tonight at the American Airlines Arena (601 Biscayne Blvd). Abracadabra! Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $400.
