London via MIA
Hipster-hop isn't exactly a new genre. Pioneers such as the Beastie Boys, the Roots, and OutKast have always appealed to eccentrics who want some substance with their big, fat beats. Hip-hop for white people? Maybe. But it was solid and indisputably good. Enter Brooklyn's Theophilus London, whose This Charming Mixtape catapulted him into the hipster consciousness with tracks such as "Cold Pillow" and his reinterpretation of the Whitney Houston megahit "I Will Always Love You."
Now, after appearances at Rokbar and LIV and the release of a new mixtape, I Want You, London returns to Miami this Saturday with the help of the Overthrow and Poplife for a live performance at Grand Central. Along for the ride will be resident DJs Mike Deuce and Jessica Who?, plus guests Damaged Goods and Troy Kurtz.
