A red and white polka-dot dress with a cap and black stockings sounds more like a Minnie Mouse costume than beach attire, but chic modesty did once rule our shore, which is now overrun with silicone orbs. To take you back to a time when birthday suits were actually concealed by bathing suits, the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, in collaboration with ArtCenter/South Florida, presents Bathing Suits of Americas Winter Playground, 1898-1921. The display includes fourteen reproduction suits from the Jantzen swimwear company. Pink and yellow striped pantaloons, a purple suit with pink and blue trim, and even a sassy two-piece (oh my!) with green and yellow trunks will adorn the windows of the gallery. Dive into past fashions today through October 2 at ArtCenter/South Florida, 810 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach. Admission is free.
