Keepin' It Real
Game Boys, the Fresh Prince, booty bass. Why did the ’90s ever have to end?
It’s true that time waits for no man, but if we gather in our bike shorts, stirrup pants, and platform flip-flops and dare to believe, we can turn the hands of the clock back for just one night.
That’s the idea behind this Saturday’s third annual ’90s Homecoming, presented by Sweat Records and its partner the Vagabond (30 NE 14th St., Miami). Once again, they’ll bring the past back to the children who made the ’90s the magical era it was — and this time they’ll all be really drunk.
There will be a ton of sweet DJs playing the very best in ’90s musical kitsch. The Main Room will feature DJ Hottpants and Ryan Evans taking control of pop, dance, hip-hop and R&B. Lolo, Alex Caso, and Sweetswirl will be killin’ ’em with Britpop, alternative, grunge, and buzzclips. Plus, the Garden will be banging great B-sides from Deejay Smeejay and Grace Jones all night long.
It’s also a special birthday celebration for Lolo and Chipi. So nice of them to invite you to their massively rad function, right? Don’t worry about arriving empty-handed. Your presence is the ultimate gift.
