It's difficult to imagine a child who has grown up with Guitar Hero, YouTube, and iTunes wanting to be a rock star. "One day, I want to be drawn on by Perez Hilton" seems like a much more contemporary desire, which makes this Friday nights opening film at the Romance in a Can Film Festival, Qui M'aime e Suive, pleasantly quaint, even though it was made during the blog age, circa 2006. At 35 years old, Maxime Maréchal is already the head surgeon at a major hospital and married to Praline, a successful lawyer. But one night while getting plowed at a bar, he encounters a lounge singer named Chine (aren't they all named Chine?) and realizes his life is meaningless. Solution: Get the old lycée band back together, with Chine as the new lead singer! They're going to be bigger than Les Chaussettes Noires!
The film plays at the beautiful Raleigh Hotel. Showtime is 8 p.m., with a $15 donation at the door. Afterward, go get plowed at the Florida Room and fall in love with a cocktail.
