Intrastate Ineptitude

Year in and year out, Major League Baseball tries to bill interleague play between our hometown Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays as an intrastate rivalry. Unfortunately for the Marlins, the only rivalry that exists is in how the Tampa Bay Rays, who operate under a similar financial situation as the Fish, somehow consistently field winning teams while the Marlins discover new and innovative ways to piss off their fans. At presstime, the Marlins have a record of — actually, no, it’s so bad that it’s not even worth mentioning. They’ve been so inept that in a three-game series against the San Diego Padres, another MLB gutter dweller, they scored just one run. In all three games. Seriously. So what does the team have going for it? Marlins Park (501 NW 16th Ave., Miami). This Wednesday’s game, beginning at 7:15 p.m., thankfully comes with two promotions: Chevron’s buy eight gallons of gas to purchase $8 Home Run Porch tickets or $18 Home Plate tickets, and also Kids Eat Free Wednesdays. And Lord knows the nachos are worth admission.
