Unless you take your own hammer to Pollo Tropical this Friday night, the only way you’ll hear that satisfying bang after a purchase is if you get yourself to an art auction. So it’s good for you, you hammer-crazy loon, that there’s a pretty solid art auction going on this weekend.
And because it’s the Miami’s Independent Thinkers Summer Art Auction, you can expect to find open-minded people who won’t take one look at you, panting in the doorway as you stroke your hammer, and assume you’re going to attempt to bludgeon them to death.
Miami’s Independent Thinkers works to support the Miami art scene and, as they say, “embraces established, emerging and young artists, visionaries, and intellectuals.” So you know somebody’s getting naked before the night is over. Will it be you?
The auction, held in the Cannonball building (1035 N. Miami Ave., Miami), begins at 7 p.m. and is scheduled to go until midnight. Aside from music by multiple DJs; Peroni beer, Vita Coco coconut water, and snacks from the Corner (independent thinkers: Bring a blender to make your own really gross shake); and a gathering of some smart, exciting people, there will be work by more than 50 artists up for bid. The money raised will go toward producing the group’s fifth Art Basel fair.
Entrance is free, but the art will cost you. Still, if you can convince the other bidders that a particular lot is cursed, you can probably keep the price pretty low.
