In Living Color
Its film awards season, and after a year of $50 movie nights, the ceremonies are our reward too. Celebrating with the winners, crying with the losers, getting drunk with them all -- its our favorite time of the year. Yeah, the cancellation of the Golden Globes broadcast robbed you of your stargazing fix, but youre not worth the paper your AMC MovieWatcher card is printed on if you miss the Academy Awards show this year. So since youve seen everything at the megaplex, switch it up tonight and head to the Cosford Cinema to catch Honeydripper, a film that premiered to rave reviews at last years Toronto International Film Festival.
Starring Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton, and Mary Steenburgen, this musical drama tells the story of a bar owner who is desperate to return his lounge to its status as one of the citys hottest spots, and you better believe he hits a few roadblocks. Todays showtimes are noon, 2:15, 4:30, 6:45, and 9. Tickets are free for UM students, and general admission is eight dollars. This weeks lineup also includes some landmarks in African-American cinema: Spike Lees Malcolm X will hit the screen Sunday, and Robert Townsends ever-timely Hollywood Shuffle will show Monday. Call 305-284-4861 or visit com.miami.edu/cosford for additional showtimes, screenings, and information.
