THU 8/5 You're clubbing on South Beach with a free drink in each hand, and you're surrounded by a passel of sweaty, shirtless firemen. Some kind of wonderful dream? No, you're at State Nightclub (320 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach), celebrating the 2005 South Florida Firefighter's Calendar. These heroic studs will strut their stuff in a fashion show, which will probably feature an alarmingly imbalanced shirt/pants ratio. You can get an autographed calendar for a mere $25, which goes to Neighbors 4 Neighbors, Here's Help treatment and rehabilitation programs, and other local charities. So while you ogle the muscular man parade, you can feel justifiably warm and fuzzy inside, knowing that you're helping to save youths from the perils of drug addiction. Open bar begins at 9:00 p.m., fashion show at 10:00 p.m. Admission is $20. Call 786-621-5215 or log on to www.firefighterscalendar.com - Patrice Elizabeth Grell Yursik

Symphonic Dreams

SUN 8/8 When your neighbors stop glaring at you, you'll know your child is improving his French horn playing. Come to think of it, your budding musician is starting to develop a colorful tone, and the scales he plays no longer make your teeth ache. Perhaps it's time for a new challenge. If your youngster is between the ages of 8 and 18 and is showing promise in string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments, sign him or her up for an audition with the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. The award-winning group is bound for Carnegie Hall next year and is recruiting for its elementary, junior, and senior orchestra as well as its jazz ensembles. No appointment is necessary, but audition times are scheduled by alphabetical groups starting at 1:00 p.m. at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus, Music Building H-8000, 11011 SW 104th St. Call 305-267-3002. - Juan Carlos Rodriguez

Tasty Two-fer

SUN 8/8 What goes best with grilled wild salmon and a California chardonnay? Catwoman , The Notebook, or Fahrenheit 9/11 ? It's an after-dinner question you'll have to answer when you make a Sunday visit to trendy Touch restaurant (910 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach). The South Beach hot spot gives its belly dancers a rest for a night and offers up that most tried-and-true of date options, dinner and a movie. The 3-course meal comes from a set menu for a set price: $45/person, and with movie vouchers for Regal Cinema a leisurely stroll away. Dinner runs from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.
