Home-Grown Goodness

Miami is one of the last places you’d think to find some hippy-dippy, feel-good, communal-type permaculture farm. But Earth ’n’ Us Farm (Miami New Times’ 2011 Best Sanctuary From the Fast Track), located in the bustling neighborhood of Little Haiti, offers not only a temporary respite from the concrete jungle but also some education. The farm’s Grow Your Own Deliciousness Workshop (7630 NE First Ave., Miami) this Saturday promises all kinds of holistic, outdoorsy fun. First learn how to grow your own fruits and vegetables; then stick around for an afterparty where you can watch (and eat) some live vegan cooking, enjoy a BYOM (bring your own mat) yoga session, listen to some live music, experience live poi, and participate in a jam (cowbells encouraged). In true hippie spirit, the event is family-friendly, so you and your tots can get matching tribal face paint. Families, couples, and singles can all get lucky at this workshop; there will be a raffle for holistic prizes. The event is free, but indulge your inner do-gooder by buying some vegan cookies and making a cash donation. Earth ’n’ Us Farm is also running a food drive to benefit the homeless, so feel free to give some nonperishables to help less fortunate Miamians. All proceeds benefit the Midtown Community Garden Project. Groove out from 3 to 7 p.m. Visit
Sat., Aug. 3, 3-7 p.m., 2013
