Hey Diddle Diddle
Be forewarned, there will be naked men! director Joseph Adler cracks about the edgy production ringing in the new year at GableStage. Tonight at 8, the curtain lifts on the Southeast premiere of The Little Dog Laughed, a play by Douglas Carter Beane that was a smash hit on Broadway and earned a Tony nomination last year.
Its funny as hell and a biting satire on the mores and hypocrisy regarding life in the theater and film, Adler adds. The plot follows the travails of Mitchell Green, a rakish young movie actor on the verge of hitting it big. Usually photographed with gorgeous women on his arms, he has a secret that could derail his career. His affair with men and the rent boy hes fallen for are driving his bitchy female agent to the brink of despair. She tries to help him navigate the Tinseltown shark tank while keeping his sexcapades quiet. This devilish howler, hailed as one of the keenest showbiz sendups in recent years, will run through February 3.
