Happy Childhood Memories
Creative-writing students are often taught that the richest material comes from ones own experience: childhood, family, hometown growing pains. However, some writers have richer grist for the mill than others. Take for example Augusten Burroughs, the phenomenally successful author of Running with Scissors. Few authors have been able to balance dark recollections with shocking, delightful humor so well, and even fewer have found their tomes holding steady on the New York Times best-seller list for two and a half consecutive years. Now Burroughss story has recently hit the silver screen in a star-studded adaptation that is already drawing loud Oscar buzz. The surprisingly well-adjusted and incredibly eloquent author will grace locals with his presence tonight at 8:00 at the Lincoln Theatre. An Evening with Augusten Burroughs is specially presented by independent bastion Books & Books, together with New World Symphony, Florida Center for the Literary Arts, and the Miami International Film Festival. Tickets cost five dollars and can be purchased at all Books & Books locations. Save your stub to use as a credit toward the purchase of any book at any Books & Books store. Call 305-442-4408, or visit www.booksandbooks.com. Learn more about the author at www.augusten.com.
