Grand Ole Opry
Somewhere in Switzerland, physicists are making two beams of subatomic particles called hadrons travel in opposite directions inside an accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. When the beams eventually collide, these eggheads think they will have re-created the conditions just after the Big Bang. We think we know of a simpler way to break the laws of physics: Bring together 30 of opera's most skilled sopranos, tenors, and baritones in a one-night-only performance, where their gilded vocal cords will pulse like flux capacitors.
Celebrating Robert M. Heuer's 25 years as director, the Florida Grand Opera Tribute Concert and Dinner threatens to be a summit of aural talent that could bust out a new black hole right there on the Lynn Wolfson Stage at the Arsht Center (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) this Thursday at 7 p.m. Under the tutelage of Heuer, Florida Grand Opera has produced 25 operas never previously seen in South Florida, including world premieres of Minutes Till Midnight and Anna Karenina.
