Good Old-Fashioned House Party

Dutchmen René ter Horst and Gaston Steenkist, AKA Zki & Dobre, first tasted success as the Good Men, the alias they used to release their 1993 dance hit "Give It Up." The track was a samba-tinged number with drums and whistles; it had a First World-meets-Third World style that pitched it to the number one slot on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart. But despite producing under a seemingly endless number of monikers, it was as Chocolate Puma that they returned to the dance music charts. Their 2001 track "I Wanna Be U," a traditional house banger, got people dancing once more. Other releases followed, such as the more understated "Star Is Born" and the soulfully flavored "Always & Forever." Chocolate Puma's sound can be described as somewhat similar to Daft Punk's Homework and Discovery periods -- back when house music was the robot's forte and before the members of Daft Punk became electro gods to the hipster set. Check out Chocolate Puma's extensive dance music catalogue, along with DJ Louis Dee, Sunday at Set.
