Get It While You Can

Women’s History Month is just about over, but hang on a minute! The last gasp of the month is bringing us two of the biggest fem-centric events in the city. So uh ... what took you so long, ladies? Instead of complaining, we’re just gonna let it all hang out at the Women and Culture Festival. The talents of females from all over the globe will be feted with music, dance, and art. It begins Thursday, March 27, with a special performance by female musical collective She Said at Transit Lounge, and culminates tonight at the North Beach Bandshell with a spectacular showcase. Headliner Nicole Henry will soothe your spirit with jazzy standards, the bass-heavy groovesters of Elastic Bond will show you how to move, and Marijah and the Reggae All-Stars will be rocking you all night long. There’s a five-dollar donation; call 786-395-3619, or visit

If live music isn’t your bag, you can still appreciate the beauty, power, and unique experiences of females at the Women’s International Film Festival. The cinematic celebration begins Friday March 28, and ends April 6. Ten days of films, workshops, panel discussions, and parties continue this evening with the premiere of Cover Girl Culture, a documentary that addresses the effects of the media’s glare on youth and the sexualization of young girls. It begins this evening at 6 at AMC Theatres CocoWalk, 3015 Grand Ave., Coconut Grove. A panel discussion, moderated by former New Times journalist Celeste Fraser Delgado, will follow the screening. Tickets cost $10. Call 305-653-9700, or visit
