Perhaps a visit to the ballet could add a new facet to your already sparkling personality. Miami City Ballet’s 2007-2008 season opens at the Carnival Center with George Balanchine’s sumptuous ballet Jewels. If you’ve limited yourself, assuming ballet is just a little tutu, we highly encourage a sampling of this glamorous bauble.

Famed New York jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels piqued Mr. Balanchine’s creativity for this three-act full-length production. “Emeralds” is languorously elegant, with music by Fauré; “Rubies” is accompanied by a spirited Stravinsky jazz essay; and “Diamonds” is a formally perfect ballet set to Tchaikovsky’s music. A talk by Edward Villella or other artistic staff members will be free to those with tickets 45 minutes prior to performance. So pile on your bestest jewelry and twirl over to the Ziff Ballet Opera House at the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts this afternoon at 2:00.
