Fundraising gallery nights are a beautiful thing
Cecilia Moreno-Yaghoubi puts her money where her mouth is when it comes to creating art with a message. The Colombian-born artist uses broken dolls, old photos, beads, fabric, assorted thrift shop detritus, and found objects to convey her vision of the social, cultural, and religious ills contaminating the contemporary world. Her thought-provoking mixed-media assemblages will be on view tonight at 6:30 at the Opera Gallery (Bal Harbour Shops, 9700 Collins Ave., #217, Miami Beach) during the opening of Made in Latin America, an exhibit in which Moreno-Yaghoubi takes the stage alongside modern masters like Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, and Antonio Segui, among others. The gallery will donate a percentage of sales to the International Kids Fund, which provides medical care to underprivileged children across the globe. Tomorrow night at 6:00 at miArte Gallery (85 Merrick Way, Coral Gables), the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation unveils Enchanted Evening, a work designed by local artist George Rodez for the organizations 2007 Taste of South Florida fundraiser. Featuring cocktails and hors doeuvres, the event is free to the public and encourages participants to learn more about the genetic disease affecting 30,000 children and adults in the United States -- and for which there is currently no cure.
